Contracting Authority: OPW
Safeguarding the mid-eighteenth century Leinster House for continued use by the Houses of the Oireachtas involved highly sensitive works the building’s structure and the upgrade of its life safety and general building services.
The works were closely coordinated between the Office of Public Works, the Houses of the Oireachtas and the Contractors such that the business of Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann continued uninterrupted throughout the course of the contract.
Prior to the main construction works, extensive historical research and specialist surveys were carried out on the building’s plasterwork, paint, stonework, slate lead and copper, windows and doors.
Leinster House has now been preserved for future generations as the home of Parliamentary democracy and for its many thousands of welcome visitors each year.
