Leeson Lane is an example of compact urban development close to existing public transport networks and civic amenities; leveraging prior public investment in infrastructure while balancing the needs for increased density and repair of an historic setting.
The project was designed, procured and delivered by the Office of Public Works for use as contemporary office accommodation by government. It comprised the adaptive reuse of Spruce House, a historic former dispensary building, alongside the construction of a new seven storey over basement building. The development is predominantly naturally ventilated, meaning a very significant reduction in energy demand. Currently, it is the headquarters for The Department of Culture, Communications and Sport and also provides office accommodation for the Department of Finance.
